| Spring is busting out all over. The winter's generous rainfall has given every plant and seed a boost with the arrival of longer, warmer days. The Sangiovese is putting out its first tiny leaves, well ahead of the Cabernet. Our wind machine was tested this morning to make sure it's ready if needed for frost protection (see my Facebook post today for a video). Fava beans (delicious if you have the patience to peel them), vetch, oats, and other green growing things comprise the luxuriant cover crop in our vineyard. The first Cecile Brunner rose is opening, and a flowering shrub is in glorious bloom. The Dawn Redwood's leaves are 1/2" long, growing fast. It's a lovely time to be in Napa Valley. |
