The jury split, unevenly, between Sangiovese and Faraona. Your editor was outvoted by her own partner of many years -- he who insisted on planting the forest Sangiovese in Napa Valley in 1985 -- and a visiting Burgundian. They both preferred the Faraona.
I held out for the Sangiovese, whose bright acidity was a perfect foil, in my opinion, for the tomato-garlic sauced, creamy cheese stuffed, delicate spinach lasagne.
"Ragazzi" means kids in Italian, and ours were this age when we started producing Villa Ragazzi Sangiovese. First vintage: 1989.
