Last weekend Villa Ragazzi hosted a meeting of the Berkeley Angel Network, a formative consortium of early-stage investors who are all Berkeley/Haas graduates. Professor emeritus Jerry Engel, founder of the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship at Haas, and his wife also attended. For this Haas alumna, it was a small way of giving back as well as a welcome opportunity to introduce the Sangiovese and Faraona to fellow alums. A beautiful January day surrounded by the vineyards of Napa Valley never fails to attract city dwellers...
We're going to the annual election meeting of the Oakville Winegrowers tonight. They have the best meetings! Everyone brings a bottle to taste and share and they're pretty much all very special wines. There will probably be some Opus One, maybe a little Screaming Eagle, with luck some Gargiulo Aprile (a lovely super-Tuscan blend)...it's hard to go wrong in this group. Rodeno Vineyards is proud to be a member.
The sirens started it.
The big coyote close by in our neighbor's vineyard immediately chimed in, adding some local color to this afternoon's visit by some lovely people from Michigan. "Creeps me out," one said, hastily taking cover.
I should have mentioned that the resident coyotes never harm anything bigger than a jackrabbit, of which Rodeno Vineyards has a plethora. They didn't even hassle our free range Araucana chickens. The neighbor's dog did, however, so I'm secretly hoping the coyote next door will find that little dog to its liking.
Dan Berger just published his Top Wines of 2012 in the first 2013 issue of Vintage Experiences, and guess whose 2009 Sangiovese is on the list?
We are proud to be included alongside such luminaries as Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico 2007, Navarro Riesling, Cabernets from Frog’s Leap, Jordan and Corison, Morgan Pinot Noir…it’s a varied and intriguing selection of about 45 wines Dan found exceptional from the hundreds (thousands?) he tasted and wrote about in 2012.
